Description

This is the first album by German band Okta Logue, although they have previously released one record with a smaller line-up as Zaphire Oktalogue, I haven’t heard that one. Nasoni celebrates their 100th release a bit and all the vinyl versions (100 of which are on colored vinyl as usual) come with a download card and a poster and in addition 100 of the posters that come with the black vinyl are signed by the artist! First of all, the music of Okta Logue brings to mind Pink Floyd in their Dark Side of the Moon – Animals phase, but the band still has their own touch to their 70’s style, quite progressive but mainly laid-back music. The trumpet orchestrations bring in some original flavor and I like the vocals, abundant guitar solos, organ, lap steel guitar as well as the rhythm section a lot. The album also has a quest pianist to add some nice extra flavor. The album includes five shorter pieces (the Floydian treasures “Bright Lights” and “Just to hear You Sleep”, the acoustic “Deal with the Digger”, the bit more special, little Zappa-like “Mr. Zoot Suit” and the marvelous “Shine Like Gold”) as well as the over 20-minute-long “Decay” that fills up the whole second side of the vinyl and is the album’s highlight for me also including some more upbeat material as well as some more psychedelic and experimental elements. This album is absolutely worth getting if you’re into mid 70’s Pink Floyd.  (TimeMazine review)
