Human Teorema is an instrumental neo-prog-kraut rock quartet, hailing from France, and even though they formed back in 2012, “Le Premier Soleil De Jan Calet” is their debut LP album, released through Sulatron Records. Let’s take a look at the label’s press release:
“Sulatron Records is proud to present you the first vinyl release by a great new instrumental neo-krautrock, psychedelic rock band from France! Human Teorema is a Parisian quartet formed in 2012. Built around a cyclopean bass-drums combination, their cosmic music oscillates between dreamy, contemplative progressive rock and wild, turbulent krautrock. It’s a journey to nowhere, an exhilarating sensation of infinite interior space, an improvised exploration of the seas of psychedelic ambient music that plunges listeners into a vast and delicate reverie. They released several EPs, played plenty of Parisian dates, held long-time residents at Mains d’Oeuvres, and even an appearance on TV Canal+’s Petit Journal during the last years. The album traces the journey, explorations, and visions of Jan Calet, a professor of ancient civilizations in Rome in the early 90s, as he traverses through the ages and abysses until his renewal.
What you hear is a mix of styles, from dreamy cosmic soundscapes over some wonderful sentimental and mellotron fueled moments à la Friends of Dean Martinez to some intense stuff, some progrock, some dub, pretty hard to describe. Best you listen to it several times. It is becoming better and better with every listen! A real grower!”…
Human Teorema consists of Tim Girerd-Hengstenberg (Guitar, Synths), Alan Charron (Bass), Mathieu Leroy (Guitar), and Xabi Irigoin (Drums). “Le Premier Soleil De Jan Calet” contains 2 tracks on the first side and just 1 on the second. An ambient spacey intro sets the scene on the opener “Onirico”… Instantly the phrase “…Space the Final Frontier…” comes to mind, and slowly the soundscape becomes dreamy and kind of trippy-floating, a track that flirts with New Space Age music, a totally cool and futuristic improvised track! With “Studiis” the band makes a huge dive into that mid-70s magical British Space Rock era, a long improvisational track that shamelessly flirts with PROG, transforming into an electronic spacey experiment before launching into some faraway constellation, mind-bending and totally trippy, this is Modern Space Rock at its Best! A Cosmic sequence of mind-blowing sounds captivates your body and mind… The side-long “Spedizione” occupies side ‘B’, the scenery is Kozmique, Krauty, and deeply Spacey, this is a SPACE expedition to the Universe with a soundscape that continuously changes… From Space to Prog, to Dub (Thank you Ozric Tentacles!), to dreamy Space, to trippy experimental Ambient, to Space Prog! What a Trip! TimeLord Michalis
