Montreal’s Technicolor Blood are back with their sophomore album “Evolution Now” after their 2021 self-titled debut (read my review here). Let’s have a look at the press release:

“Drawing on a roster of veteran rockers from a cross-section of scenes, Montreal’s Technicolor Blood formed in 2017 and features Marty (Scat Rag Boosters) on vocals, synths and guitar; Boredom L (The Aversions) on bass; Carl Bedard (Dutch Oven) on drums; and newcomer David Hardy on guitar. Having previously released a pair of 7-inch singles and a rather poorly timed self-titled 12-inch smack in the middle of the pandemic, the space rockers are back with their heaviest and most lysergic effort yet: “Evolution Now”, a brand new nine-song LP that clocks in a hair under thirty-eight minutes. Sometimes aggressive, sometimes soaring, Technicolor Blood delivers fuzz-riddled riffs, tremolo-fueled heavy-psych effects, and inspired synth work which recall a strange hybrid of Hawkwind meets Chrome”…

“Evolution Now” contains 9 tracks (5 on the first side and 4 on the second). The atmosphere that prevails inside the album is, using one word, HEAVY! The band has drifted away from the Heavy-Space-Rock of their previous album, adopting here a Heavy-Rock attitude… The last phrase on their press release says it all, a strange hybrid of Hawkwind meets Chrome”All 9 tracks, except one (which is my highlight), starting from the opener “Crash Program” and reaching the last “Suffocating Greed” are deeply drenched in super Heavy riffs, Fuzzy leads – without being metal – maximum power, overloaded with huge doses of Psych adrenaline… The highlight track is the instrumental “Anaadi”, Technicolor Blood make a huge dive into dark PSYCHness, blending Heavy riffs (occasionally) with early 70s Psych, it feels like the trippiest side of Hawkwind went on a date with The Psychedelic Stooges… Wow! So, if you’re into some Fuzzy aggressive Heavy Rock, get aboard! TimeLord Michalis
