In the world of underground Psych, true artistic freedom often comes from complete independence — and Germany’s Creamcheese has been proving exactly that since 1998. Operating as a one-man-band project from North Rhine-Westphalia, Creamcheese has spent nearly three decades crafting deeply personal sonic explorations where progressive rock, psychedelic textures and experimental sound design coexist without limitations. The newest chapter of this long creative journey arrived in 2025 (November) with “Schallplatte”, released through the always intriguing Clostridium Records.
What makes this project particularly fascinating is its absolute DIY philosophy: every aspect of the album is handled entirely by Creamcheese himself, from composing and performing to programming, mixing, editing and even the artwork. Musically, echoes of Pink Floyd’s atmospheric psychedelia and King Crimson’s adventurous progressive spirit can certainly be detected, yet the project maintains its own distinct identity shaped through years of experimentation.
“Schallplatte” contains 5 tracks, compositions, 3 on the first side and the other two on the second side of the vinyl LP album, clock-ticking from 6:16 to 12:14 minutes! The album opens with “Der Allerschlimmste Vogel”, a dynamic instrumental journey that initially feels like a nod to classic Krautrock pioneers before gradually transforming into a powerful progressive hard rock statement. The hypnotic rhythm section drives the track forward while the soaring guitar work adds both intensity and melodic sophistication. “Zischenberger” in an instrumental piece, bursting with the adventurous spirit of 70s progressive rock and subtle traces of vintage Pink Floyd atmospherics. The mysterious mid-section adds emotional depth, while the overall composition feels cinematic enough to soundtrack a forgotten sci-fi film from the golden era of analog futurism. “Béésh Nitsékee” is a darker and far more experimental excursion, built around repetitive effects, trippy improvisation and beautifully unsettling atmospheres. The combination of psychedelic heaviness, progressive keyboards and shimmering guitar textures creates a fascinatingly unpredictable soundscape that slowly disappears into pure darkness. Side ‘B’ opens with “Maha Nakhom”, one of the album’s standout moments, beginning with a futuristic and highly experimental introduction before evolving into a sophisticated Krautrock-driven trip. Blending space rock, trance-like rhythms and progressive complexity, this track perfectly captures Creamcheese’s fearless exploratory spirit. The album closes with “3L3K7R0K4CK3”, the longest and most ambitious composition, Creamcheese delivers a constantly shifting sonic adventure where Krautrock, progressive rock, dark psychedelia and unexpected electronic textures collide. Unpredictable, immersive and unapologetically experimental, this feels less like a late-night journey designed for deep listening far away from conventional radio formats…
In conclusion, “Schallplatte”, is an album full of vision, imagination and complete artistic freedom. Moving effortlessly between Krautrock experimentation, vintage progressive textures and deeply atmospheric psych explorations, this is an album made for listeners who appreciate adventurous music that refuses to follow easy formulas. A work created far away from commercial expectations — a deeply personal trip built for listeners who still appreciate progressive music in its most uncompromising and exploratory form… TimeLord Michalis
