From Monterrey, Mexico, via Tucson, Pirámides return with “El Bienestar del Espíritu”, their latest transmission and perhaps one of their most rhythmically compelling releases to date. Built around the songwriting of Patricio Coronado, alongside Grant Beyschau and Casey Hadland, the trio continues to explore a musical territory where psychedelic experimentation, folk traditions, drone, improvisation and repetition-based minimalism coexist without ever settling into a predictable formula. What immediately stands out here is the importance of rhythm: bass and drums provide a hypnotic, almost trance-inducing foundation, while voices, guitars and atmospheric textures gradually gather around it, creating a strange and constantly shifting musical landscape. Pirámides approach their music more like a collage, allowing polyrhythms, drones, and repetition to slowly transform the pieces, sometimes becoming heavy and ritualistic, at other times opening into vast and meditative soundscapes. Mexican and wider Latin American influences are woven naturally into the fabric of the album. Released by Cardinal Fuzz in the UK and Feeding Tube Records in the USA, “El Bienestar del Espíritu” is an album that rewards patience, revealing itself gradually through texture, movement and hypnotic repetition.

“El Bienestar del Espíritu” contains just 7 tracks. The journey begins with “En Tu Mirada”, where a hazy, drone-heavy, and fuzzy psychedelic electric sound appears from the very first second, gradually transforming into an amazing Krauty landscape. The track keeps diving deeper into Neo-Kraut territory, creating a mind-blending, hallucinogenic atmosphere where the drone-like vocals seem to float somewhere inside the ever-expanding sonic space. “Más De Una Bandera” comes charging in with a killer bassline before the entire band unleashes an amalgam of complex textures that is almost impossible to categorize. The rhythm is loose and constantly shifting, while countless strange and fascinating details are happening in the background, eventually building an unbelievable wall of sound, with those drone-like vocals adding yet another layer to the sonic maze. With “Refugio”, electronically treated polyrhythmic and repetitive patterns set the scene before the band suddenly starts the engine and launches the whole thing into SPACE. It is genuinely difficult to describe what is happening here, as electronics bend and twist around a lysergic rhythm section, with different rhythmic patterns colliding and somehow emerging as a psychedelic Krauty drone piece of experimental rock! “What have you done to my head?” might be the only appropriate reaction, especially as the track accelerates towards its finale, making everything shimmer in the twilight. “Sawa Yukawi” takes us into darker territory, driven by tribalistic, drone-heavy percussion and complex rhythmic patterns beneath an industrialized psychedelic-Krauty atmosphere. Experimental, cold and strangely hypnotic, the track gradually reveals a form of dark minimalism that feels both primitive and futuristic.

Side two opens with “Al Caer La Noche”, a cold, meditative drone carrying an intense liturgical atmosphere, with stripped-down, almost naked vocals emerging from the darkness. As the title suggests — “When Night Falls” — everything changes here: once the darkness settles in and the senses adjust, the music seems to reveal other creatures lurking somewhere beyond the visible. “Con Las Aves” returns to a monotone, repetitive Neo-Kraut landscape, but this time wrapped in a heavy, industrialized electronic sound. Once again, the electronics seem to follow a completely different path from the cold, steady drumbeat, while the mystical vocals occupy another sonic dimension altogether. The band leaves plenty of room for experimentation, gradually transforming the whole piece into a mind-bending psychedelic ritual that feels almost like witnessing a live concert where members of Can and Amon Düül have somehow found themselves on the same stage, each doing their own thing simultaneously. And wow, what a trip! Finally, “Para Llegar A Ti (Extendida)” begins with a deep drone, as if the musicians are preparing the space for some mysterious upcoming ceremony. The arrival of the saxophone introduces a free-form ambient quality, expanding the track into increasingly mind-bending territory, while improvisational and ceremonial vocals deepen its ritualistic character. What eventually emerges is a dark, isolated, and almost naked avant-garde experiment in psychedelic minimalism and drone — less a conventional song than the soundtrack to a private ceremony taking place somewhere far beyond ordinary consciousness… (wow!!!)

In conclusion, “El Bienestar del Espíritu” is not an album that simply plays in the background — it demands to be entered. Pirámides create a hypnotic universe where Krautrock, Drone, experimental Psychedelia, tribal rhythms and ritualistic minimalism constantly collide and mutate. The deeper you go, the more the music seems to abandon conventional structures and embrace pure atmosphere, rhythm and altered states of consciousness.
