This is a surprisingly splendid 7 incher by Anton ‘Psychedelic Moses’ Barbeau brought to us through Keith and his Fruits de Mer Records UK label! There’s an Anton original song – with a Psych guitar hero on board – on the first side of the Single, and an exciting Robyn Hitchcock cover on the second side. Anton – a regular visitor to the FdM label – has roped in Barry ‘The Fish’ Melton (Yes! That one! The original lead guitarist with the legendary Psychedelic act Country Joe and the Fish) to play some searing guitar on “Dogstar”. Anton reveals: “He showed up with a custom-built Mesa Boogie amp. It was LOUD! He played at Woodstock Volume, seriously. Amazing vibe. And did I mention it was LOUD?? We worked on two songs at the session, one called “I Used To Say Your Name,” which I’d written for Allyson Seconds, and the song of the day, “Dog Star.” I knew Barry was THE dude for the song and it was an honor and a thrill to have him on board”… So, yes, “Dogstar” is loaded with some seriously Heavy guitars, it’s a modern Psych Groove-a-delic gem! On the other side, “Queen Of Eyes” is a cool song reminiscing the cool care-free sunny days of the late 60’s era, a rather respectful fresh reinterpretation of Hitchcock’s tune… Lovely… TimeLord Michalis
