From the ghost-lit streets of Berlin to the moss-covered silence of the Swedish forest, Per Svensson Psychedelic Sounds returns with “Berlin Nights”, a heady, poetic descent into the spiral of life, death, and rebirth. Recorded between the legendary Hansa Studios and the windswept countryside of Uppåkra, this new chapter in Svensson’s ever-evolving psychedelic vision blends kosmische textures, field recordings, and alchemical lyricism. This isn’t just music – it’s a sound journey into the unconscious, where krautrock pulses meet forest whispers and poetry opens doors to the cosmic beyond. The album is released through Greek label Sound Effect Records, and here’s the extremely informative press release:

The new album “Berlin Nights” was recorded at Hansa Studios in Berlin, Germany and in the Swedish countryside in Uppåkra, Sweden, at House on the Hill Studio. On the new album, the poetry describes the mystery of life and death, but also rebirth, the new beginning or reincarnation: The spiral rotation of time, space and matter. The music on the new album focuses on the return of life through death and opens the door to a Psychedelic cosmos”…
Per Svensson Psychedelic Sounds consists of Clay Ketter (drums), Linus Kuhlin (bass), Rasmus Alkestrand (sitar), Alexander Cole (Organ), Per Svensson (Vocals, Guitar). Additional Percussion by Peter Rosemann. Psychedelic Light Projection by Kristian Nihlén. Here’s a closer view to all 9 tracks (4 on the first and 5 on the second side) of “Berlin Nights”.
The album kicks off with the self-titled and somehow autobiographical “Berlin Nights”, an opening dream bathed in moonlight and memory. Acoustic fragility meets gothic shadows as Per sings like a man remembering lives already lost. Birdsong begins and ends this deeply esoteric piece, a nocturnal lament cloaked in candle smoke. We wander deeper now, into cold soil and darker branches with “Endless Forest”, spoken-word incantations echo across ghostly terrain. The forest whispers endless, and the music follows suit: slow, haunting, and soaked in existential mist, a psychedelic sleepy-hollow track… “Through The Wall Of Sound” is an abstract drift through psych noise and piano reveries. Lo-fi fuzz bleeds into off-world frequencies. It’s not a wall, it’s a wormhole, and the descent is disorienting, beautiful, and just a little terrifying. What follows is a brief cry from the void, “Opening The Door To Cosmos”, punkadelic urgency wrapped in avant-psych textures. City noise turns into stardust as Per urges us to listen and leave. Raw, restless, and reaching beyond… Side B opens with “Philosopher’s Stone”, sitar drones and ritual rhythms fuel this alchemical invocation. It’s psych-raga by way of Swedish forest mysticism — cosmic, grounded, and strangely uplifting. One of the record’s most luminous spells! “Sound Transmission” is a glitch in space-time. This short, melancholic interlude distorts acoustic warmth through backward guitars and future static. It’s as if memory itself is malfunctioning… A cursed Blues dirge dragged through the psychedelic swamp through “The Magic Key”, sitar and harmonica howl like wounded spirits as the track grows darker, heavier, and more hypnotic. A tortured gem… “Sun / Son” has funeral bells toll, while the haze rolls in. Only the sitar offers light, flickering like a beacon in spiritual fog. Abstract, mournful, and quietly transcendent. Last one, “Stars Over Egypt”, a final ascent — or descent! Organ drones melt the mind as this stoned desert hallucination unfolds. Neo-psychedelia at its most brain-fried and visionary. A pyramid trip for the true heads, wow! Of course, this is my highlight in here…
So, “Berlin Nights” isn’t just an album, it’s a psychic transmission from the spaces between worlds. Per Svensson crafts sound like a ritualist, pulling echoes from forest floors, Berlin balconies, and cosmic thresholds. This isn’t background music, it’s a soundtrack for inward travel. Proceed with open ears and a flickering candle… Per Svensson has the privilege to be included two times, with two different bands, in my list with the BEST albums of 2025! Yes, Cosmic Garden Project, is the other one. How intriguing! TimeLord Michalis
