Acid Rooster is an instrumental psych/kraut/space Rock band, hailing from Leipzig, Germany. So far, they have released a cassette (“Live At Desi”, 2017) and a self-titled LP album (“Acid Rooster”, 2019). “Ad Astra” is their new release and it’s quite remarkable that 3 different labels collaborated for this release! Cardinal Fuzz Records (UK), Little Cloud Records (USA), and Sunhair Music (EU). The informative press release fills all the ‘gaps’ and leaves nothing unexplained:

“Acid Rooster were described by ‘Le Guess Who Festival’ as a ‘wet dream for heads who cram their record collection with Amon Düül, Spacemen 3, Wooden Shjips, Tangerine Dream’ – a statement we wholeheartedly endorse.

Ad Astra was recorded live in July 2020 in a private garden with a field recorder in front of a small audience of friends during the lockdown in the middle of the corona pandemic. The two long jams were the opening and the closing track of a completely improvised concert and are a spontaneous snapshot of Acid Roosters’ approach to free-floating consciousness-expanding psychedelic music.

So 2 tracks and 46 minutes of Acid Rooster digging deep into the well of far-out psychedelic rock that is one mind-expanding journey to the innermost limits of your mind”…

So, what we have here is 2 side-long tracks, one on each side of the LP. “Zu Den Sternen” (22:28) starts under a dark and somehow industrialized Spacey and quite heavy-effected environment, the band slowly unfolds a torturously Heavy-Prog Space sounding, of course the music here is improvisational, acting like a slowly-burning long Heady Jam, quite Trippy too… “Phasenschieber” (23:12) uses the same soundscape as the first side, but the main difference here is that – by now – we have entered Deep Space, somewhere across the universe, and everything is literally FLOATING! Experimental ambient blends with Cosmic Space music in a long ‘stoned’ jam, creating a superficial hybrid of Intergalactic New Space Age Music! A Mind-Expanding journey, indeed!
