Stay were one of the first bands to record for Fruits de Mer Records, back in 2008, and played at the label’s first gig as well as a Dr. Sradonicus festival. Now, Stay, are back on the Fruits de Mer label after far too long away and they have recorded their take on The Move’s classic 60s song, “I Can Hear The Grass Grow” exclusively for this 7-inch vinyl single release, combining it with a new mix of their song “Get Going” from their latest album… The press describes them as… Supergrass meets Oasis in Barcelona, offering a mix of soft psychedelic sounds, early Charlatans or Fools Gold-era Roses, with maybe shades of Temples, Elephant Stone, Woods, or Tame Impala…
“I Can Hear The Grass Grow” was written by Roy Wood and was released originally as a 7-inch single on 31 March 1967. Stay’s version, is a more “soft n’ gentle” one, the characteristic Move’s sound is here, of course, the effected-vocals too, add a little 12-string guitar experimentation and you’ll get a wonderful reinterpretation that reflects the beautiful sunny Psych-related 60s sound of Stay…
As far as the ‘B’ side, well, it is very hard to believe that “Get Going” is NOT an old forgotten jewel from the amazing past, Stay created a cool Glam-Psych-Rock atmosphere, the Stones – by the way – would love to have included this in any of their early 70s LPs… Excellent! PS Is the younger generation taking notes? TimeLord Michalis
