“Insanity Is The Song We Sing” is the 8th album by Octupus Syng. Since 2023, Octopus Syng is again (they started this way) a one-man band, a solo project by Jaire Pätäri. Everything here is done by Jaire, vocals, all instruments, music, words, and of course, he is responsible for the artwork cover. Let’s see what we have here…

“Insanity Is The Song We Sing” consists of 11 songs, 6 occupied on the first side and 5 on the second side of the LP album. A low DIY atmosphere is spread all over the 11 tracks and generally speaking, I can call it Psych-bedroom music, or something like that… Anyway, the opener “Beetroot Republic Rainbow” is a distorted industrialized Psych-based track, that blends The Stooges’ raw energy with The Velvets’ otherworldly brutality under an eerie experimental psych vein… “Agent Code 420” uses the same soundscape as the previous track but this time the atmosphere is a little bit darker and somehow colder… “Magic Box” starts and while listening to this dark and psychotic theme, I think this one over here could be a lost early 70s psychedelic track by a completely unknown band. The weird “My Weekend” follows, it is filled with distorted energy, and acid psychedelia, and acts as an “abandoned” part of “Sister Ray”… “Distorted Light Strips” has a raw lo-fi psych atmos, kind of mysterious with an intensely cinematic feel, resulting some piece of glorious Experimental Psych music… “The World Is Big” is dark, Psych (of course) with a strong post-punky-goth-like feel… Side ‘B’ opens with “Where Is All My Stuff”, a track that uses the same rawness of the first side of the album, there’s a kind of a punky attitude but without getting away from the Psych borders… The last 4 tracks of the album are ALL my personal favorites in here, starting with the mysteriously creepy “Factory” a track filled with Psych, isolation, and darkness! “Chambers Of Primal Desires” is a distorted strange track full of Psychness and ghosts of the past while “Hedvika Is Getting Married” is a Psych-Rock song filled with Avantgarde Pop, a quite experimental one! The album comes to an end with “Do You Have A Light?”, a psychotic, twisted, Psych eerie kind of ballad, an ideal track for a future thematic album entitled “Graveyard Ballads”, (got it?)… So, “Insanity Is The Song We Sing” it’s not an “easy” album, and if you’re into some Bedroom-Psych then you will not be disappointed!
