Mamuthones is a Psychedelic Rock project founded in 2007 in Padua, Italy. Since 2008 they have released 5 albums. “From Word To Flesh” is their 6th. Mamuthones don’t make music to entertain you. They never did. On “From Word To Flesh”, their first full-length since 2018, they ditch the polish, tear off the masks, and dive head-first into the dirt. What started as a potential techno-leaning follow-up turned into something way more physical, inward, and unsettling—thanks to lockdowns, mental collapse, and the world going sideways. This isn’t an album—it’s a ritual, a purge, a psychic punch in the chest. “From Word To Flesh” contains 7 tracks and here’s how it unfolds: The opener “Burn From Inside” starts in a slow, smoldering, ceremonial way, synths rise like smoke and percussion loops pull you into a trance state of mind. A heavy start that feels like Coil reimagined in a Sardinian village post-blackout. The ceremony is about to begin, welcome to my Funeral… “A Cage Full Of Sins” is grinding, repetitive, claustrophobic. Vocals buried under distortion like a broken transmission. Feels like being stuck inside your own panic. Dark and experimental. Motorik gone wrong. Rawest track on the album—no comfort here. “Can’t Be Done”, unfolds more darkness, it is slower, hazier, almost ambient-flirting. Not quite calm—more like suspended animation. Feels like something ended… or began again. “Before You Leave” continues in a minimal, mournful, cold way with haunting keys and distant textures, giving it a ghostly vibe. A funeral song for lost time… Side B opens with “A Symmetry Of Faith”, tight post-punk rhythms meet desert psych drones. Feels like Beak jamming in a forgotten temple. The “faith” here is rhythmic obsession—looping, stretching, crumbling. No climax, just hypnosis and weirdness… What follows is a descent into madness. “Son Of Myself” has spoken word rants over swirling chaos. Alessio channels Werner Herzog’s Aguirre—but this ain’t cinema, this is exorcism. Disorienting, confrontational, brilliant in its weirdness. What a bizarre Trip! The album, eventually, comes to an end with “Carry On”, a hazy, slow, ambient-like atmosphere, probably acts like the perfect closer. Stripped down, skeletal, almost peaceful. As if all the noise and tension have dissolved into ash. A quiet spiral out of the chaos… “From Word To Flesh” isn’t for casual listeners. It’s for those who want their psychedelia dissonant, their rhythm ritualistic, and their emotions unfiltered. It’s messy, honest, sometimes terrifying—and probably the most human Mamuthones have ever sounded. Best listened to alone, in the dark, loud… TimeLord Michalis
