Now, this is what I call a cool and refreshing surprise for the hot summer of 2025! The freshly formed Dionysians – The duo consists of Kostas Miliaras (Polaroid Buffalo Club) and George Papakostas (Coral Fuzz, Polaroid Buffalo Club) – crash into the scene with a debut double A-side single that sounds like it crawled out of a dusty jukebox in a smoky basement club—somewhere between Piraeus backstreets and 60s Camden. Rooted in the raw tradition of Greek garage rock, Dionysians make heavy use of the holy trinity: screaming Farfisa organ, buzzsaw fuzz guitar, and a tambourine that hits like a pulse. It’s not retro for the sake of nostalgia — it’s sweaty, urgent, and alive. The spirit of the Greek ‘60s is here, yes, but filtered through years of basement gigs, heartbreak, and reverb-drenched dreams. “Aferengya Filia” (“Unreliable Kisses”) – sung by George – kicks off with relentless drive — a beat that demands to be danced to, with vocals soaked in longing and a hint of sarcasm. The lyrics speak of love that breaks promises before they’re even made. “Ηλεκτρισμένα Beach Bar” (“Electrified Beach Bar”) is sung by Kostas, and might technically be the B-side, but it stands on equal footing — hazier, and dripping with heatstroke psych vibes. The organ spirals, the fuzz melts, and the whole thing feels like a lonely August afternoon in a seaside bar that’s seen better summers, where even the cocktails taste like static. I’d like to mention that there’s one more track on side “B”, untitled and not mentioned else where (artwork cover, Bandcamp), it’s a Greek “Bouzouki” Shake, kind of oriental and Eastern inspired… A surprise, indeed! This single is a statement: Greek (spoken) garage rock is not dead — it’s just gone underground. Are we talking about a Greek-spoken 60s Garage Revival Sound? We’ll have to wait and see… The Dionysians bring the shake, the sweat, and the distortion, but they never lose sight of melody, movement, or melancholy. This is garage made in Greece, 2025 style: no frills, no filters, no apologies. TimeLord Michalis
